The National Power Corporation (NPC) on Friday launched and re-energized its 52-kilometer Puerto Galera to Mamburao 69 kV transmission line in Mindoro province. The rehabilitation project which cost around Php 318 million allowed for a more climate-resilient facility and ensured an efficient and more reliable power supply in Occidental and Oriental Mindoro.
Leading the simple switch-on ceremony were DOE Undersecretary Emmanuel Juaneza, Congresswoman Josephine Sato, Mamburao Mayor Lyn Tria and NPC’s OIC Usec. Donato Marcos. They were also joined by Mr. Ryan Sioson from the office of Governor Eduardo Gadiano, OMECO General Manager Cesar Faeldon, NPC’s Vice President for Legal Atty. Melchor Ridulme, VP for SPUG Larry Sabellina and VP for Power Engineering Service Atty. Rogel Teves.
Moreover, NPC has recently finished construction of the 64-kilometer Bansud to Mansalay and the 60-kilometer Mansalay to San Jose 69 kV transmission line which traverses and connects Oriental and Occidental Mindoro. The corporation has also completed rehabilitation projects for Calapan to Bansud (101 km) and Calapan to Puerto Galera (90km) 69 kV lines.
With the completion of the Mindoro backbone transmission, the two provinces can trade power supply, minimize systems loss and enjoy a more reliable dispatch of power.
NPC as mandated by the Electric Power Industry Reform Act of 2001 or Republic Act 9136 is tasked to bring light to far-flung islands and communities in the country. It is in this capacity that NPC manages and operates the transmission line systems of six provinces such as Palawan, Catanduanes, Masbate, Marinduque, Oriental and Occidental Mindoro.
